Washington High School Bulletin for Thursday, March 19, 2026

Menu Change Monday the 23rd will be weiner winks and Monday March 30 will be fajita chicken tacos. Also March 26 and 27 will be cook's choice because of finals. This is for the High School only.


Volunteer Opportunity: WCDC is looking for a volunteer once a month on Thursdays at 3:15 to help teach computer skills. The skills you would be teaching staff include: accessing email, accessing files, opening and completing word documents, accessing websites from an internet browser. Internship Opportunity: Any WHS student who is interested in doing an Internship teaching Computer Skills or Art Skills at WCDC in Term 3 or Term 4, please contact your school counselor. After Prom Forms are in the front office. Just a reminder, in order to get the $25.00 discounted price you have your form turned in to the office by March 14th. After that, the price will go up to $35.00.


Prom Guest If you are going to bring a non WHS student to prom you must have a form filled out and approved by their administrator and brought back to the front office. Forms are due back no later than 1:30 on April 17th. No late forms will be accepted.


Spring Break WCSD will be on spring break the week of March 16th. Classes will resume on March 23rd.


Egg Fundraiser If you'd like to send a candy-filled Easter egg to a friend or family member (in school) for one dollar, please return the paper that was sent home, to the office by March 27th. If you need another order form, please see the office.


Washington County Student Engineering Intern - 2026 The Washington County Engineer's Office is looking for a college student or high school graduate pursuing an undergraduate degree in Civil or Construction Engineering to assist with construction inspection and basic land surveying. Other degree focuses will also be considered.      Student must be hard working, responsible, punctual, able to follow instructions, and able to work independently. Must have a valid Iowa Drivers License.      This will be a temporary summer position with competitive wages. It will be approximately 40 hours per week, 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM Monday - Friday. 2026 Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) The Rotary Youth Leadership Award is an intensive leadership conference designed to assist future leaders in methods of responsible and effective leadership. Iowa RYLA focuses on developing leadership through the lenses of team, community, and emotional leadership with an emphasis on Rotary's motto: Service Above Self. The student application goes live on the IowaRYLA.org website on February 1st, 2026. Application deadline is April 30th. RYLA is scheduled for July 26 - 31, 2026 and will again be held at Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa. The Washington Rotary Club will be awarding two scholarships to cover the $530 cost of each student attending RYLA this year. There is no cost to the student to attend. 2026 Dick Gallagher Memorial Washington Keokuk County Corn Growers Scholarship The Washington Keokuk County Corn Growers are proud to offer $1,000 scholarships in memory of Dick Gallagher, a founding board member whose dedication to agriculture and the local corn industry left a lasting impact on both counties and the state of Iowa. To be eligible, students must be a high schooler graduating in 2026 with plans to enter an accredited program with a minimum completion time of two years. The application does require that student to explain how his or her choice of career will relate to the corn industry. For example, a student majoring in food sciences, environmental science or engineering, will need to relate their course of study and career choices back to the agriculture industry. The scholarship is not restricted to students majoring in an agriculture field. A student must be a resident of Washington or Keokuk County to qualify. *Student and/or parent must be a current member of the Iowa Corn Growers Association. AGC Iowa Scholarship The AGC Iowa Foundation will be awarding in the Spring of 2026 to Iowa High School Seniors. The deadline to apply is March 27. Diesel Technology -We are awarding five (5) - $1000 scholarships to Iowa High School Seniors planning on entering a Diesel Technology Program at a community college in the Fall of 2026. Heavy Equipment Operation, Engineering Tech., General Construction - We are awarding five (5) - $1000 scholarships to Iowa High School Seniors planning on studying heavy equipment operation, engineering technology, or general construction at a community college in the Fall of 2026. The Midland Make A Difference Scholarship The Midland Credit Union is offering a new scholarship called The Midland Make A Difference Scholarship. Applicants must be members of the Midland Credit Union. Awards range from $500 to $1,500 and are available to: • Students entering their first year of college or vocational school • Students continuing their undergraduate degree or second year of vocational studies Eligibility details and online application. BethAnn McBride Scholarship The BethAnn McBride Scholarship Application is available for students to pick up in the Counseling Office for any senior who attended St. James Elementary School. Must be submitted electronically or postmarked by March 31, 2026.


Des Moines Chapter of the Mothers of Multiples Scholarship The Des Moines Chapter of the Mothers of Multiples organization is sponsoring one $750 scholarship for the 2026-2027 academic year for Iowa's multiple birth students pursuing enrollment or currently enrolled in a college, university, trade, or vocational school. More information can also be found on our website Des Moines Mothers of Multiples - Eligibility and Requirements. All documents should be completed by April 1st to qualify. Washington County Pork Producer Scholarship Washington County Pork Producers is offering scholarships for students looking to pursue an education and remain involved in the pork industry. Qualifications include: Students from Washington, Iowa, Johnson, Louisa, Henry, Jefferson or Keokuk county. Have career plans for involvement in the pork industry. Applicant or Immediate family member must be a member of Washington County Pork Producers (Can become a WCPP member prior to applying, details in the application) Deadline April 1, 2026.
