From The Kitchen This week will be blueberry parfaits and taco salads.
Student Congress Blood Drive Student Congress will be hosting a blood drive on November 4. If you would like to sign up to donate please contact a Student Congress member or Ms. Kuhlman for information. Anyone 16 or older can donate. If you are 16 please, stop in the office for a form that your parents will need to sign.
Finals WHS finals will be on Wednesday October 21st and Thursday October 22nd.
No School Days There will be no school on Friday, October 23rd and Monday, October 26th.
Caps and Gowns Seniors! Check your email for cap and gown information! There are also flyers in the student center if you would like one. The deadline to order is October 22nd.
Schedule Changes Students please look at your Schoology messages from the school counselors for schedule change information and other information.
NHS Applications National Honor Society applications are due this Friday October 16 by 345 to Ms. Kuhlman in room 330 in the Middle school. Applications can also be turned into the MS office.
Boys and Girls Cross Country Congratulations to the boys' and girls' cross country teams on winning their conference titles, and to Parker Tschantz for being the individual conference champion!
Girls Wrestling Meeting A meeting for any high school girl interested in girls wrestling will be held Monday, October 19th, after school in the HS commons.
2027 Legislative Page Program- Iowa Senate, House of Representatives The Iowa Senate and Iowa House of Representatives invites Iowa high school juniors and seniors to apply for Page positions for the 2027 session of the Iowa General Assembly. Serving as a legislative page is a great opportunity for students. Included in this email is a link to the online application. Details about the program can be found here. Please note that living arrangements for Pages are not supervised or provided. We ask parents, guardians, and school personnel to carefully consider this aspect of the program and not recommend students who may need a supervised environment. (The links are in Schoology.) Youth In Aviation Day - Free Join us for a free day of hands-on activities, aircraft displays, flight simulators, and opportunities to connect with aviation professionals! 📅 Saturday, October 17 ⏰ 10:00 AM–2:00 PM 📍 Eastern Iowa Airport 9430 Shepard Court SW Cedar Rapids, IA 52404 This is a great opportunity for students to explore the world of aviation, learn about careers in the industry, see aircraft up close, and experience hands-on activities.
Kirkwood College Visit 11th and 12th Grade Students can sign up to take a college visit on Thursday, November 12 to Kirkwood Community College with Ryan Ronan. Learn more about the admissions process, financial aid, resources to help, Kirkwood classes, listen to a Student Panel and more. Free lunch is provided. The bus will leave the Kirkwood Regional Center at 8:00am and return by 2:30. Register by Oct. 30 with the link in Schoology.
Bully Prevention Month October is Bully Prevention Month. Words can build someone up or break them down. Remember to always speak kindly to others as you may not know what someone is going through in their life. WEAR BLUE ON MONDAYS DURING OCTOBER to show your support for each other.
Governor's Youth Volunteer Award SENIORS: You can submit information to receive the Governor's Youth Volunteer Award by doing the following: 1. Complete 150 volunteer hours while in high school, by March 10 of your senior year 2.Write a REFLECTION ESSAY (250-400 words) addressing all three prompts that are listed: #1Describe the services completed #2Reflect on lessons learned through service experiences #3Consider future civic engagement. 3. Submit your Volunteer hours and Reflection Essay to the WHS Counseling office by Thursday, March 10 2026 at 3:45. 4. Students who submit the volunteer hours and submit the essay written as instructed, will get a digital certificate from the State of Iowa and be invited to a statewide recognition ceremony in Des Moines in June/July 2026.
